MJL is looking for Qualified Sales & Business Development Managers

MJL Enterprises, LLC, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, is seeking a high energy, innovative, imaginative, and experienced Sales (& Business Development) Manager (S&BD Manager) to join our sales and business development teams in Virginia Beach, VA.


The successful candidate will possess deep understanding of the government contracting business development life cycle, to include account management, capture management, proposal development, and new service offerings development.


In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate extensive experience in and knowledge of:


  • MRO, Tactical, Office Supplies, Medical, and Safety/Security products.

  • Capturing and administering government Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contracts.

  • Pursuing and capturing business with the US Federal Government and Department of Defense (DoD).


The successful candidate will have extensive training on science of sales, the sales cycle, forecasting, and different sales techniques.


Finally, the successful candidate will also have superior verbal and written communication skills, have demonstrated experience and skill in operating in and leading collaborative teams, and thrive in the intense federal business development environment.


The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer but for the first few months will be receiving instructions and guidance from the President.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities


The role of a S&BD Manager is mainly focused on helping, directing, and strategizing on the generation of new prospects and leads from new and existing customers which will have to be identified based on territories and divisions of government and its agencies assigned. The S&BD Manager will use effective communication skills to cultivate strong relationships with customers and send new opportunities to the appropriate sales teams for action.


It also involves performing follow-up calls to customers, responding to email communications, and interacting with visitors to our company website. The S&BD Manager will be expected to familiarize himself/herself with MJL products, services, and related industries. Additionally, the S&BD Manager is very familiar with the different aspects of Sales processes and the techniques used specifically in the context of Government Sales. The S&BD Manager will work with the Inside Sales team and Business Development team to share best practices and meet or exceed individual, departmental, and company KPI goals.


Duties include but are not limited to:


  • Leading pre-proposal shaping activities, orchestrating capture activities during the proposal phase and post-submittal activities and being responsible for shaping opportunities to achieve high win probability.

  • As a key member of the company Business Development team, developing and executing assigned campaign plans that support our client's corporate strategy and business plan.

  • Identifying opportunities consistent with the company business plan and developing and executing capture strategies for assigned opportunities to secure new and/or re-compete contracts.

  • Identifying trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements.

  • In collaboration with other members of the Business Development team and corporate technical experts, shaping opportunities to promote high win/high profitability probability, performing pre-proposal shaping activities, and orchestrating capture activities during the proposal phase and post-submittal activities.

  • Examining risks and potentials for the business opportunities.

  • Leading the pursuit and capture of IDIQs and the pursuit and capture of task orders on IDIQ contracts.

  • Performing proposal management activities, as required, to support RFI, RFP, RFQ, and Task Order responses. This includes the following: creating response templates, creating, and managing calendars and proposal deliverables, directing graphic designers and desk top publishers, as required, and supporting production for final submission to the government.

  • Developing and maintaining high quality relationships with customers and partners, including next generation vendors.

  • Closing new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing, and negotiating contracts, and integrating contract requirements with business operations.

  • Building market position by locating, developing, defining, and closing business relationships.

  • The S&BD Manager will direct and be responsible for the success of the sales and business development teams composed of several team members and consultants.

  • The S&BD Manager will work closely with other MJL teams, including (but not limited to) Marketing, Channel Management, Inside Sales, e-Commerce, and Operations.

  • Other duties as assigned from time to time by Executive Management.


Qualifications / Skills / Education / Experience


  • Experience and expertise performing and managing sales and business development in an information management / information technology/technical professional product and/or services firm.

  • Specific required qualifications:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience performing and managing full life cycle business development in the US Federal Government and US Military.

  • Minimum 8 years' hands-on experience in Federal government and Military agency-related account and capture management and proposal management.

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise as a strategic thinker who can grasp, articulate, and plan the "big picture" in the context of the corporate strategy and associated business plan while concurrently being able to independently plan and implement related detailed technical and administrative tasks required to complete assigned BD actions.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading capture of IDIQ contracts and associated task orders.

  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in planning, capturing, and winning new business opportunities.

  • Demonstrated experience as a proposal manager and supporting all aspects of proposal development

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the companies supporting Federal agencies and demonstrated capability to draw on industry contacts to build teams in support of business pursuits.

  • Demonstrated customer management/relationship building skills.

  • Demonstrated ability and leadership traits to operate in an intense, rapid-pace competitive business environment characterized by the following: responding to continually changing requirements; planning and executing business development tasks rapidly; operating in a collaborative team framework; and rapidly learning and applying new skills and knowledge.

  • Demonstrated management and motivational skills necessary to lead a group of highly motivated with extensive experience in sales and business development.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, and Project.

  • Superior verbal and written communications skills; expertise in writing documents, to include proposals and in delivering presentations in a highly dynamic environment.

  • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or related discipline.

  • Professionalism.
